Standard Arterial Switch Surgery (Jatene Procedure) - The most common approach, where the pulmonary artery and aorta are switched to their correct positions, and the coronary arteries are reattached to the aorta. Arterial Switch with VSD Repair- Performed when there is a ventricular septal defect (VSD) in addition to TGA, with the VSD repaired during the arterial switch procedure. Arterial Switch with Atrial Septal Defect (ASD) Repair - Done when there is also an atrial septal defect (ASD), with the ASD closed while performing the arterial switch.

Transposition of the great arteries is often detected at birth or during a diagnostic exam, such as echocardiography, cardiac MRI, or fetal ultrasound.
